Requirements :

  • A recognized three or four-year qualification, which includes professional teacher education plus 8 years’ experience in the educational field with credible, relevant management experience. Must be registered with SACE. A postgraduate qualification (Honour’s or Master’s degree) will be an added advantage. Must have appropriate experience and knowledge in education, including education legislation and policies, public finance, education funding, information management, and an understanding of the policy and legislative context and processes that inform the development of Strategic Plans and Annual Performance Plans in the department. Basic research skills are essential. Advanced computer literacy is required, particularly in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint). Must demonstrate the ability to identify and conceptualise education policy challenges and develop effective solutions. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively across sectors, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a keen interest in the development of the education system are essential. A valid South African driver’s licence is required.

Duties :

  • Facilitate departmental planning processes in line with national and provincial frameworks. Ensure that all planning outputs conform to the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, the approved budgeting cycle, the Medium-Term Development Plan, and the broader planning cycle. Responsibilities will include compiling reports and presentations related to planning, budgeting, and accountability, as well as collecting, analysing, interpreting, and reporting on educational and financial data. Identify key budget highlights and contribute to the preparation of the annual provincial budget speech. Support the implementation of the Gauteng Department of Education’s Performance Management Framework and contribute to general education policy development through the analysis of budgets and operational plans. The role includes coordinating macro-planning processes, as well as overseeing the compilation of the department’s approved Operational Plan, Annual Performance Plan, and Strategic Plan. Will be expected to participate in provincial planning forums, advance intergovernmental relations in respect of transversal provincial priorities, and engage with both internal and external stakeholders to inform and support the department’s strategic planning processes.
