Requirements :

  • A minimum of a Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification. The ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Experience in a clinical/ hospital environment will be an added advantage. Be willing to work shifts, that includes night shift, weekends and public holidays. Rotate in different departments according to operational needs and requirements. Be physically fit to perform tasks such as lifting patients from beds or benches and wheelchairs. Good communication skills, good telephone etiquette and have the ability to maintain confidentiality. Basic understanding of safety and hygiene principles.

Duties :

  • Responsible for transporting patients from different service points to clinical areas and wards within the hospital. Assist in offloading patients from ambulances and private vehicles to the wheelchairs/ stretchers. Ensure patient safety when transporting them. Cleaning of stretchers and wheelchairs at all times after use. Transporting corpses from the wards to the mortuary. Ensure accurate completion of the mortuary register. Reporting faulty equipment to the supervisor for repairs and ensure that they are stored properly. Participate in administrative procedures of the mortuary and to adhere to correct protocols when dealing with the public and the bereaved families. Ensure that equipment is readily available for use at all times. Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor.

Candidates in possession of a foreign qualification will be required to furnish the Department with an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). HR will conduct Personnel Suitability Checks (PSC) and Verification Checks. The Department reserve the right to conduct verification beyond information provided, where necessary. Failure to submit all the relevant information mentioned above with the exception of HR verification checks, will result in the candidate being disqualify.
