An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical
Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. A minimum of three (3) years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with HPCSA. One-year experience in District Health Services/ District Hospitals & project will be an added advantage.
Duties :

Ensuring protocols for Basic Antenatal Care (BANC) and Basic Intrapartum Care (BIC) are available in all district services; conducting and ensuring facility and clinical audits in all district services, including morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings; providing clinical support to facility managers and clinicians in all district services; ensuring that monthly obstetric emergency drills are held in all facilities doing deliveries; monitoring and evaluation using data bases and customized audits. Support clinics, community health centers and district hospitals with all aspects of service delivery related to Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with the emphasis on maternal (pregnancy) care; promote clinical effectiveness in all facilities on development, dissemination and implementation of clinical protocols and standard treatment guideline aligned to national norms and standards. Promote adoption of evidence- based quality of care principles, including companionship for women in labour and other mother – friendly practices in birthing facilities in the district. Ensuring ongoing in-service training is provided to all district services to nurses, midwives and doctors working in obstetric services: perinatal education program (PEP); Take essential steps in managing obstetric emergencies (ESMO) and other training programs as they arise. Maintenance of clinical skills working with obstetric patients in all district clinics and hospitals. Teaching and examining undergraduate and postgraduate students; leading and participate in research in maternal and perinatal care, COMPETENCIES; planning and organizing work to achieve objectives that meet service standards; apply problem solving strategies as a manager in the service; Manage human and financial resources in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and policies. The incumbent will be required to work longer hours.
