Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Occupational Certificate: Pharmacist's Assistant NQF Level 05 (Post Basic) as recognized by SAQA (SAQA ID: 112807). Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Qualified Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant. Current active registration with SAPC for 2026. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience required after registration with SAPC as a Qualified Post-Basic level. Valid driver’s license (code B). Own Transport. Competencies: Job related knowledge; Scope of practice of a pharmacist assist qualified post-basic level according to SAPC GPP. Computer literacy skilled; Microsoft, Pharmacy Dispensing software. Sound verbal and written communication skills. Sound organisational and planning skills. Sound intermediate – advance administration skills. High level of reliability and ability to handle confidentiality. Ability to act with tact and discretion and handle conflict. Good telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills. Good Problem-solving skills, Good organisational and planning skills, Ability to work under pressure, to take initiative and work well in a team. Physical man-power capabilities, no physical disabilities as the job requires and include physical duties/capabilities. Basic knowledge and understanding of the public legislative, policies and procedures framework governing the Public Service.

Duties :

  • To render an advanced Pharmacist Assistant qualified Post-Basic Level Service in terms of the Pharmacy Act and GPP standards as per South African Pharmacy Council requirements. To Assist in Veterinary Pharmaceutical Management of Veterinary Pharmacy Stores (Contribute to the good pharmaceutical healthcare management practices);Assist with stock management control of pharmaceutical and other medical stock; both ordering, receiving, packing, capturing and the distribution of medicines in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures and legislation according to an instruction of a person authorised in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 101 of 1965. Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation, re-packaging, of non-sterile or sterile medicine or scheduled substances according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist. The reading and preparation of a prescription, the selection, manipulation or compounding of the medicine, the labelling and supply of the medicine in an appropriate container following the interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist.The provision of instructions regarding the correct use of medicine supplied; and the provision of information to individuals to promote health and safe use of medicine. Handle Pharmacy suppliers & deliveries; receiving, packing, storing and capturing of deliveries and stock. Administrative and all Record-Keeping Duties; Document & project management, record, and human resource management, Compile and submit monthly and quarterly reports. Assist with Procurement & financial file/s preparation, Planning & memo Submissions. Assist in the management and control of healthcare risk waste (HCRW), including biological and pharmaceutical waste, Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal practices in accordance with regulations. Adhere to Good pharmacy practice guidelines as published in the rules of the SAPC. Adhere to timelines. Be willing to undergo continuous training and development programmes. Attend meetings and training as approved by supervisor. Maintaining good interpersonal relations with co-workers and supervisor. Be willing to work flexible hours as required by operational needs. Deliver medicines, to regional offices’ pharmacy medicine rooms/facilities stock and pharmaceutical supplies to relevant regional offices departments and clients in Gauteng as per schedule and requests. Participate in veterinary campaigns and other activities aimed at eradicating the spread of animal diseases. Render a pharmacy/pharmaceutical support service to the State Veterinarian/s regarding animal disease control, awareness & information. General pharmaceutical and inventory stock operations and Support within Pharmacy stores & other regional Service centers pertaining to GDARD GVS.
