Requirements :

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent NQF level 7 qualification in law. Admittance as an Attorney or Advocate. At least 5 years appropriate post qualification litigation/ advisory experience. COMPETENCIES: Advanced legal research, analytical and interpretation skills; ability to develop sound legal arguments and provide practical legal solutions; strong drafting skills for legal opinions, pleadings, reports and other legal documents; expertise in dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation and conciliation; sound judgement and decision-making skills; ability to assess legal risks and recommend appropriate interventions; interviewing, investigation and fact-finding skills; excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities; strong verbal and written communication skills; negotiation, stakeholder engagement and conflict management skills; ability to apply legal principles to complex matters and deliver legally defensible outcomes; and a high level of professional integrity, objectivity and adherence to ethical standards.

Duties :

  • Provide professional legal advice and opinions on constitutional, administrative, labour, commercial and public law matters. Furnish legal opinions to Gauteng Provincial Departments on the interpretation, application and possible conflict of laws. Manage and coordinate litigation involving the Office of the Premier, including liaison with the Office of the State Attorney and other relevant stakeholders. Assist with the implementation, coordination and monitoring of the Provincial Litigation Management Framework to safeguard the interests of the Province. Conduct legal research and advise management on legislative developments, case law and associated legal risks. Draft, review and vet agreements, contracts and other legal instruments. Assist with the drafting, certification, interpretation and final editing of legislation and subordinate legislation, including the preparation and processing of Bills. Represent the Office of the Premier in legal, intergovernmental and stakeholder forums and promote legal compliance, good governance and sound decision-making across GPG Departments. Contribute to the Directorate’s performance.

Appointment to an SMS post is subject to successful completion of the Nyukela Pre-Entry Programme (Certificate for Entry into the SMS) offered by the National School of Government (NSG). The successful candidate must provide proof of registration and successful completion of the programme prior to appointment. The cost of the programme is for the applicant's own account.
