Requirements :

Master of Medicine (MMed) Degree in Psychiatry or Qualification as a psychiatrist with the Colleges of Medicine (FC Psych); Current registration with the HPCSA. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a psychiatrist post registration as a psychiatrist. It would be an advantage to have clinical experience in community mental health services, the ability to perform research (qualitative and quantitative); and managerial experience. Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines, leadership qualities, the ability to work independently and in a team, computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and a driver’s license are necessary attributes.
Duties :

Work with the Sedibeng District Mental Health Team to monitor and evaluate the mental health needs of and services for the district population. Based on the findings, develop an operational plan towards improvement in mental health coverage, process of mental health care and outcomes of care. Work with the district management to implement the operational plan. Ensure that mental health services include treatment, prevention, promotion and protection of mental health care users and other vulnerable groups through relevant intervention programs and strategies. Promote collaboration between primary health care services, community psychiatry, and therapeutic services, and the non-health sector including governmental and non-governmental organizations', towards person-centered mental health care. Ensure that quality mental health services are provided according to ethical principles, professional standards, and national guidelines, including referral procedures and coordination with all stakeholders. Oversee training of primary care practitioners and community psychiatric staff as well as educational and mental health literacy outreach to the non-health sector and public, including suicide and substance use disorder prevention strategies. As a joint appointee with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of the Witwatersrand, participate in teaching, examining, registrar assessments and research according to the academic program. Maintain academic standards in the district-based in-service training and use research findings to inform situation analyses and improve services.
