Requirements :

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent and MBChB/MBBCh degree or equivalent medical qualification that permits registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. Relevant Accident & Emergency/Emergency Medicine experience will be an added advantage. ACLS, ATLS and/or PALS training/certification will be an added advantage. Sound clinical judgement, communication, teamwork and ability to work effectively under pressure. Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Inherent requirement of the post: Participation in the hospital's after-hours call system is compulsory.

Duties :

  • Provide comprehensive emergency medical care, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis, resuscitation, stabilisation, treatment and appropriate referral of adult and paediatric patients. Manage medical, surgical and trauma emergencies and perform relevant procedures within the scope of practice. Participate in multidisciplinary patient management and ensure effective patient flow and continuity of care. Maintain accurate clinical records and complete medico-legal documentation timeously. Participate in clinical governance activities, including morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits, adverse-event and near-miss reviews, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, policies, clinical guidelines and health establishment norms and standards. Promote appropriate and cost-effective use of healthcare resources. Participate in teaching, training and departmental activities and perform other reasonable duties delegated by the Head of Department or Hospital Management.
