A basic qualification accredited with the SANC in terms of Government Notice R425 (i.e. Diploma/ Degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse. Must have Diploma in Mental health (Basic Psychiatric Nursing). A minimum of 7 years’ appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing, of which 3 years must be in a mental health (Psychiatric setting) to create and maintain a working inter-professional and multi-disciplinary relationship within nursing and internal and external stakeholders. Diploma/ Degree in Nursing Administration or Health Service Management will be an added advantage. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation, Mental health Care Act and other related legal and ethical nursing practices and how these impact on service delivery. Knowledge of the Constitution of South Africa, statutory body requirements as well as relevant legislative framework governing the practice of nursing and midwifery. In-depth knowledge and understanding of the implementation of the Mental Health Care Act No 17 of 2002 and National Mental Health Policy Framework 2023–2030. Knowledge of the general Public Service Administrative policies that have relevance to nursing practice, i.e. Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations and Employment Equity issues that have bearing on the practice of nursing and applicants must be able to work under pressure. Basic computer literacy is mandatory. Shortlisted candidates will be tested on a skill and knowledge of nursing. Knowledge and skills: have strong leadership skills, good verbal and written communication skills, sound interpersonal skills, financial and human resources management skills. Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary context. Analytical thinking, independent decision making and problem-solving skills.
Duties :

Ensure clinical nursing practice by the nursing team (unit) in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the relevant health facility. Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and financial policies and other related practices. Evaluates performance through Implementation of the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) for subordinates, also coordinating training by facilitating continuous professional development (CPD), mentorship, and orientation to improve the skills and competencies thus maintaining professional growth / ethical standards and development of self and subordinates. Coordinate nursing related research and development in the unit and support nursing management in enhancing the image of nursing. Demonstration, understanding and managing workplace discipline. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors, other health professionals and junior colleagues, including more complex report writing when required. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure good nursing care by the nursing team. Able to manage own work, time and that of junior colleagues to ensure proper nursing services in the unit. Display a concern for patients, promoting, advocating and facilitating proper treatment and care and ensuring that the unit adheres to the principles of Batho Pele. Ensure implementation of programs relevant to the area of speciality and serves in Quality Assurance, IPC and Occupational Health and Safety committees. Ensure compliance by adhering to frameworks from the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) and the Ideal Hospital Realization Framework and quality improvement activities. Demonstrate basic computer literacy as a support tool to enhance service delivery. Provide professional, technical and management support for the provision of specialized quality patient care through the proper management of nursing care programs. Advocate and ensure the promotion of nursing ethics and professionalism. Develop and monitor the implementation of policies, programs, regulations, practices, procedures, and standards pertaining to specialized nursing care. Establish, maintain, and participate in inter-professional and multi-disciplinary teamwork that promotes efficient and effective health care. Implementation of all legal prescripts/legislative framework related to nursing practice. Coordinate review of nursing interventions through comprehensive and ongoing assessment and risk analysis in the unit. Provide full-time technical and management support to the Assistant Manager and implement Batho Pele Principles and Patient’s Rights Charter.
