Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate, A recognized bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7)/National Diploma (NQF Level 6) with 360 credits qualification in Journalism/ Media Studies/ Public Relations or Communication. A post graduate qualification will be an added advantage. Must have minimum of 5 years relevant working experience which 3 years must be at Middle Management (Assistant Director) level. Understanding of health sector and broader public service. Good research and content development skills, high level of creativity, as well as the ability to use data-driven insights to write material for internal and external usage. Excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and leadership skills. The candidate should also be detail-oriented and committed to meeting tight deadlines. Excellent computer literacy and use of standard software packages. Candidate must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence. Knowledge of and understanding of the media industry, its structures, individuals and how the media works, an understanding of Budgeting and commitment to government objectives, policies, and programmes.
Duties :

Conduct thorough research on health-related topics, handles the ideation and creation of compelling news content and editing and proofreading material before publication / printing. Provide speech writing support services. Edit marketing communication content produced by the department. Participate in the national and provincial content hubs and communicators’ forums. Contribute towards the development of the department’s communication strategies and implementation plans. Facilitate language and translation services. Assist and advise on departmental communication strategies. Development and Implementation of media strategies plans and media relations programme. Ongoing development of communication of communication programme and events diary. Development and implementation of communication campaigns and projects. Coordinate proactive media interviews, press briefings and other media engagement activities. Facilitate responses to media queries while adhering to tight deadlines. Draft and distribute media statements, advisories and fact sheets. Draft and ensure the publication of opinion pieces, letters of the editors, and speeches for the MEC and department’s senior managers. Assist with human resource management, procurement, financial management, reporting and implementation of other internal policies. Assist with any other communication projects that may be undertaken by the directorate from time to time. Assist in managing the directorate.
