Requirements :

  • ERRATUM (Number of posts moved from 1 to 2). Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. A post basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Advance Midwifery and Neonatology. Current registration with the SANC as professional nurse. A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other clinicians, including report writing when required. Able to plan and organize own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper maternal and neonatal care. Ability to work independently and innovatively. Knowledge of legal prescripts that regulate nursing and health services. Decision making and problem-solving abilities within the limit of the public sector and institutional policy framework.

Duties :

  • Provide holistic specialized nursing care within set standards and a legal/professional framework. To develop and ensure implementation of nursing care plans. To participate in quality improvement programmes and clinical audit. Maintain accreditation standards through quality improvement and infection control standards and guidelines. To uphold the Batho Pele and patients’ rights charter principles. Maintain accurate and complete patient records according to legal requirements. Participate in staff, students and patients teaching. Ensure ongoing education and in-service training of EMTCT, BFHI and ESMOE. Participate in the implementation of priority programmes to reduce morbidity and mortality rate, communicable and non-communicable diseases. Ensure the use of Maternal and Child updated protocols and guidelines in the hospital. Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and financial policies and practices by proper management of resources (human, material, and financial). Act as shift leader in the unit (where necessary).

Only shortlisted candidates will be required/requested to submit certified copies of qualifications, service certificate and other relevant documents on or before the interview. Candidates in possession of a foreign qualification will be required to furnish the Department with an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). HR will conduct Personnel Suitability Checks (PSC) and Verification Checks. The Department reserve the right to conduct verification beyond information provided, where necessary. Failure to submit all the relevant information mentioned above except for HR verification checks, will result in the candidate being disqualified.
