Requirements :

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent. MBBCh/ MBCHB degree or equivalent, FC.Ophthalmology (SA) and/or MMED. Current registration and registration certificate with HPCSA as an independent medical specialist Ophthalmology. Grade 1: No Experience after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after with the HPCSA. Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after with the HPCSA.). Inherent requirements of the job: Participate in the after-hours call system (Commuted overtime is compulsory). Good leadership skills, excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and good interpersonal skills. Work independently and under pressure. Work well within the Ophthalmology department and the hospital as a team leader. Incumbents must demonstrate understanding of policies and procedures that govern public service. Drafting of Operational plans and Standard Operating Procedures in line with legislative framework. Demonstrate computer literacy in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with the ability to compile presentations and draft professional reports.

Duties :

  • Provide the quality cost effective and efficient 24 hours ophthalmology services in keeping with Batho Pele Principles and ensure that performance targets for cataracts surgeries at Pholosong Hospital are met in line with treatment time guarantees system. Assist with the training and guidance of Medical Interns and Medical Officers, optometrist and other staff categories. Maintain accurate and appropriate health records in accordance with the above. Development of skills in the department with regards to research and instruction and promote CME (Continuous medical Education through tutorials, M&M etc.). Perform administrative roles including but not limited to leave planning, staff allocation, PMDS and contracting, RWOPS management, stock control and stock management in line with SCM prescripts and PFMA.
