Requirements :

  • A Basic R425 qualification i.e. Diploma / Degree in Nursing / R171 / R174 / R683 or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse with midwifery. Must have proof of current registration with SANC as professional nurse with midwifery. Experience in mother and child or operating theatre is an added advantage. Must be able to work within the ethical and legal framework that governs the nursing professional and public service employees. The professional nurse must provide nursing care as part of the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in decision making within the scope of their practice, in the best interest of quality patient care in a mother and child hospital. Candidates must be able to work in a team in a high-pressure environment. Candidates must have good communication, leadership, and conflict management skills. Must be able to maintain patients and relative’s confidentiality, respect, and dignity. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with SANC as professional nurse in general nursing. Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with SANC as professional nurse in general nursing.

Duties :

  • Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices. Perform clinical nursing in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the health facility. Promote quality of nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards as determined in a mother and child health facility. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other clinicians, including report writing when required. Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure good nursing care. Able to plan and organise own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper nursing care. Display a concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care including awareness and willingness to respond to patient’s needs, requirements and expectations (Batho Pele principles). Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing care plan (clinical practices / quality patient care). Implement standards, practices, criteria and indicators for quality nursing. Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders. Ability to utilize human and material resources effectively. Ability to manage and control equipment effectively and assist in procedures involving the use of equipment. Skills: leadership, supervisory, problem solving, decision making, conflict management, and disciplinary skills are essential. Ability to manage complaints for patients and relatives. Ability to identify risks and patient safety incidents and be able to manage and prevent such. Adherence to the Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance Framework standards. Maintain professional growth / ethical standards and development of self and subordinates. Adherence to PMDS and CPD requirements. Implementation of infection prevention and control measures. Must be flexible and able to work shifts.
