Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist. Current registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist. No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in plastic & reconstructive surgeon. Knowledge and Skills: Ability to manage a team of junior doctors encompassing medical officers and registrars. Ability to establish excellent working relationships with other departments in the hospital. Surgical skills set to manage basic and emergency plastic surgical conditions and common hand conditions, including emergency cases. Good leadership skills, excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, conflict resolution and good interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must be adaptable, disciplined and self-confident. The candidate must be able to work independently and under pressure and beyond normal working hours and work within a diverse team. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge of legislation, policies and procedure pertaining to health care users.

Duties :

  • Responsible to carry out safe and evidence based medical care to patients with plastic surgical condition. Participate in all educational activities as planned by the unit, including active engagement in all research activities aiming to improve patient care. Provide supervision, guidance and teaching to medical students, medical interns, medical officers and registrars in the department of plastic surgery. Be willing to supervise registrars Undertaking MMED research as part of their fulfilment of the University of Witwatersrand requirements. Uphold professional conduct and be guided by sound ethical principles in the delivery of care to patients at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital and all its affiliated cluster hospitals. Commitment to participate in overtime and outreach activities of the department.
