Requirements :

  • Grade 10.One (1) year or more of cleaning experience in a hospital or clinical environment will be an added advantage. Ability to read and write. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Physically fit and able to perform strenuous cleaning duties. Willingness to rotate between wards/departments as required. Preparedness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays. Honest, reliable and responsible with a strong work ethic. Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely. Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices will be an added advantage.

Duties :

  • Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, window frames, doors, door handles, high and low surface areas, furniture, lockers, beds, curtains and blinds. Clean and maintain outside areas, including corridors and entrances, ensuring that litter is always removed. Remove and dispose of waste in accordance with hospital waste management policies and infection prevention and control standards. Clean both Staff and MHCU refrigerators, microwave ovens, kitchen and other designated equipment. Wash MHCU’s dishes, cups and utensils in wards and departments. Safely use and maintain cleaning chemicals, materials and heavy-duty cleaning equipment. Ensure immediate cleaning of spills to prevent injuries and maintain a safe environment. Replenish consumables daily, including hand soap, toilet paper, deodoriser blocks and air fresheners. Collect patients' meals and beverages from designated areas and prepare tea according to the approved tea schedule. Collect, receive and pack clean linen in designated linen rooms. Complete and sign all required documentation daily, including the cleanliness checklist (Thobela Moshomi), attendance register (on/off duty book) and delegation register. Report any maintenance defects, hazards or shortages to the Supervisor or Unit Manager without delay. Inform the Supervisor or Unit Manager when leaving or returning to the allocated ward or department during working hours. Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff in accordance with infection prevention and occupational health and safety standards. Perform any other lawful duties delegated by the Supervisor within the scope of the post.
