Requirements :

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with Post-basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification that allows registration with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic). Current registration with SAPC is a requirement. Grade 1; No experience after registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic). Grade 2, a minimum of 5 years appropriate experience after registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic). Grade 3; a minimum of 13 years appropriate experience after registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic). Computer literacy and RX solution system knowledge will be an added advantage. Basic communication and interpersonal skills. Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical processes, knowledge of relevant legislations and policies, recordkeeping, and basic knowledge of drug supply management. Work effectively as part of the team. High level of personal integrity, passion, and commitment to the profession.

Duties :

  • The incumbent will work under direct/ indirect supervision of the Pharmacist. Must fulfill the roles of a pharmacist assistant post basic in the dispensing process of medication to in- and outpatient departments. Assist with stock control, stock taking and cyclic stock counts in the pharmacy. Picking, labelling and issuing medicines to patients under supervision of a pharmacist. Assist with the re-packaging of medicine, according to standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist. Assist with ordering, receiving and distribution of pharmaceuticals to various outlets. Perform wards round for the purpose of inventory management. Assist in implementation of SOP’s, Good Pharmacy Practice, norms and standards. Assist in general housekeeping and administration tasks in the pharmacy as specified by the responsible pharmacist or supervising pharmacist. Assist with pharmacy projects and programmes. Taking effective steps to prevent any unauthorized, irregular or fruitless and wasteful expenditure. Willingness to work on a flexible schedule including working overtime as determined by the pharmacy manager or the pharmacy supervisor.
