Requirements :

• Matric/ Grade 12, 4 years degree in social work, registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP). Understanding of mental health and substance abuse and relevant legislation. Knowledge of social work theory, interventions, techniques and methods. Computer literate and have a valid driver’s license will be added advantages. Good communication (written, verbal, presentation and liaison) and interpersonal skills. Must be able to function independently and seek guidance when necessary.

Duties :

• Provide therapeutic and need-based assessment of mental healthcare users and their families’ psychosocial circumstances. Provide psychosocial support, counselling and psychoeducation to mental healthcare users and their families. Provide psychoeducation on mental health and substance abuse to users and their families. Facilitate admissions into alternative placements for continuity of care and rehabilitation where necessary. Conduct community outreach to create community awareness of social issues related to mental health and substance abuse. Work within a multidisciplinary team. Perform administrative tasks such report writing of all social work interventions, and compiling monthly statistics. Implement mental health, substance abuse and other relevant legislation, regulations and policy. Keep abreast with developments within the profession. Assist with student supervision, which includes providing administrative, clinical and supportive supervision, liaise with academic institutions, and student evaluations. Liaise with other external stakeholders within the mental health and substance abuse services sector. Prepare and facilitate in-service training as part continuous professional development.
