Minimum Requirements:
Abet level 2 or equivalent. Basic knowledge of the Legislative framework related to laundry services. Knowledge of laundry / linen services. Sewing knowledge will be an added advantage. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to liaise with internal and external stake holders. Ability to communicate well with people at different levels. Ability to organize and plan. Must be self-motivated. Must be able to do work of a physical nature. Ability to act with tact and insight. Knowledge of Batho Pele Principle. Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. Be prepared to rotate within the scope of work. Must be prepared to work, weekends and public holidays. Ability to work independently and in a team. Applicant should be prepared to undergo medical surveillance.
Duties :
-
Collection of dirty linen bags from different sections of the hospital. Clean laundry area and operate various machines in the laundry (i.e. washing, dryer and pressers. Iron, fold count and pack laundered items and seal linen/clothes bags. Collect and deliver linen/clothes to clients. Sort, count and record dirty linen/clothes. Remove/hang dirty /clean curtains/screeners. Report any machine defaults to the supervisor. Deliver bags containing soiled linen to the sorting area of the dirty linen section. Tying labelling of dirty linen bags. Operate the rinsing machines, sorting and packing the linen in the linen bank. Loading and offloading of clean linen from laundry trucks. Hanging curtains in wards, report broken or damaged curtain rails and mend torn linen. Completion of daily work activities on laundry control list. Adhere to timelines. Partake in linen inventory counting and cleaning of linen trolleys. Assist in other linen section duties per request of supervisors. Execute legal instructions by supervisor / management. Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Infection Control policies. Perform other duties as allocated by the supervisor. Be willing to undergo continuous training and development programs. Attend meetings and training as approved by supervisor. Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (Contracting, quarterly reviews and final assessment).
