Requirements :

• Diploma / Degree in Nursing in terms of R425, or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification, with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in terms of government notice no R212 in the relevant speciality. A minimum of 4 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a professional nurse with the SANC in general nursing. At least 1 year (of the 4 years) must be experience in a psychiatric environment.

Duties :

• Provision of optimal, holistic mental health nursing care. Participate in training, research, supervision, and support of student and junior nurses and must be able to provide more advanced and comprehensive psychiatric skills to junior nursing staff and students. Demonstrating an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practice. Ensure and oversee the effective utilisation of resources. Ensure the Implementation of the National Regulated Norms and Standards and Ideal Hospital Framework Standards. Participate in other committees as needed in the hospital to strengthen service delivery. Act as shift leader in the unit in the absence of the Unit Manager and ensure compliance with professional and ethical practice.
