Appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a medical specialist in Internal Medicine [FCP (SA) or equivalent], and an infectious Diseases Specialist). Essential skills: Advance clinical knowledge of HIV / AIDS, STI’s and TB. Expertise working with the current South African guidelines. Proven clinical leadership and team management ability. Strong clinical mentoring skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as supervisory skills. Ability to work under pressure. Knowledge and experience in medical teaching and training, financial and procurement management in the public sector, relevant legislation and policies pertaining to the medical field and practice. Be self -motivated. Good computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Power-point.
Duties :

HAST: Clinical leadership of the HAST program at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital, including managing complex resistant cases, improving noncommunicable disease management in HIV and TB patients. Supervision of medical officers and interns working in the HAST program, and coordination of the hospitals overall strategic response to HIV, TB and STI’s. Develop, implement, and monitor HAST work plans, ensuring adherence to national guidelines. Conduct clinical audits, morbidity/mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives for HAST indicators. Liaise with district management teams, NGOs and community structures where required. Contributing towards sub-specialist services at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital for both inpatient and outpatient services. Play a senior role in the management of infectious diseases inpatient and outpatients at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital, including leading clinical ward rounds and training fellows. Involvement in infection prevention, control, and antimicrobial stewardship activities within the hospital. Contributing substantially to research output for the division. General Medicine: As a consultant, the candidate will be responsible for the clinical management of general medical patients within any of the general medicine units at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital. The incumbent will be required to lead operational and academic ward rounds including post-intake, follow-up, and teaching rounds. The candidate will be required to supervise registrars, medical officers, intern doctors and students inpatient care and the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Other clinical duties will include managing patients at MOPD. Academic: Participation in the academic duties of the Witswatersrand Internal Medicine and related Departments. Performance of research within the department. Supervision of research within the department and MMed students. Teaching: Training and supervision of registrars, medical officers, medical interns and medical students including tutorials, teaching ward rounds and skills development. The desired candidate will also be required to provide medical support and guidance to nursing staff.
