Requirements :

  • Basic R425 qualification (i.e., An appropriate bachelor’s degree/ Diploma in nursing or equivalent qualifications that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council) as a professional nurse. A diploma/Degree in nursing administration or health services management. A Health Service Management or Nursing Administration qualification with duration of at least 01 year, accredited with SANC. A minimum of eight (8) years appropriate /recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a professional nurse with SANC. At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognizable experience at management level. Nursing Management qualification will be considered as an added advantage. Should have proven sound managerial skills, computer literacy and knowledge of financial management. Good verbal and written communication skills. Service records must be included. (Less one year from experience for candidates appointed from outside the public service after complying with registration requirements). Willingness to work under pressure and beyond a call of duty.

Duties :

  • Provide effective leadership and supervision in line with all relevant prescripts & legislation. Delegate, supervise and coordinate the provision of effective and efficient nursing care to patients/service users in the area of function in line with departmental mandates. Monitor and evaluate service delivery (Nursing). Ensure that the clinical nursing practice by the nursing team is rendered in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the relevant health facility. Evaluate National core standards and develop quality improvement plan where gaps were identified and implement the QIP. Work effectively and amicably at management level with persons of diverse intellectual capabilities. Able to manage own work and that of units reporting to the post and to ensure appropriate interventions to enhance nursing services at facility level. Display a concern for patients, promoting, advocating, and facilitating proper treatment and care and ensuring that the principles of Batho Pele are adhered to. Demonstrate a basic understanding of Human Resources and Financial Management. Participate in training, research, and self-development. Manage resources effectively and efficiently (Human and Material). Demonstrate a basic understanding of the legislative framework governing the public service. Identify and develop SOP’s relating to all Clinical Units. Resolve patient care related challenges/problems. Manage any conflict identified.
