Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Psychologist in Clinical Psychology. Registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a clinical Psychologist. No experience required after registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in clinical psychology. The following will be added advantage: RSA completion of community services as a clinical psychologist. 3-6 years of experience working as a clinical psychologist in a child unit/setting. Proficiency in the use of various therapeutic modalities would be required, e.g, family therapy, play therapy. The applicant should be well skilled in the use of psychometric assessment, report writing, and providing feedback to parents/schools. It is necessary to have good communication skills (both written and verbal), as applicant will be working within a multi-disciplinary team. Application must be computer literate. Supervision of intern/junior psychologists in the unit will be required and experience in providing supervision will be an added advantage. The application should have a firm grasp on relevant knowledge and legislation applicable to clinical psychology, e.g., Mental Health Act and the Childcare Act.
Duties :

Provide management, leadership, and supervision for clinical psychology child unit to intern psychologists, junior psychologists and psychiatric registrars. Provide psychology service i.e., psychological assessment (psychometric assessment, consultation liaison assessment), psychotherapeutic intervention to children, adolescents and families, family therapy and group therapy, parent counselling, provide consultation liaison assessments and crisis management services within the medical units in the hospital. Work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Department administrative duties- maintain accurate patient records and unit statistics. Participation in psychoeducation initiatives and projects in the psychology department. Please note this position is a joint Appointee position, which means that you would be involved with teaching, training and research within the WITS Department of Psychiatry.
