Requirements :

Appropriate qualification that allows for the required registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the Speech and Audiology profession. Registration with the HPCSA in Speech and Audiology. (RSA: No experience required after registration with the HPCSA in the Speech and Audiology profession in respect of RSA qualified employees who performed community service in Speech and Audiology profession as required in South Africa). Foreigner: 1-year relevant experience after registration with HPCSA in the Speech and Audiology profession in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform community service as required in South Africa. Knowledge: Speech-language therapy evidence-based care. Public Service Act and Regulations. Public Financial Management Act. Quality Assurance. Labour relations: Disciplinary and Conflict Management Procedures. Skills: Communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and listening skills. Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment. Ability to work as a team member, planning, organising, coordinating and problem solving. Computer Literacy. Research skills. The following will be an added advantage: Experience in adult acute patient care, VFFS/MBS, Alternative Augmentative Communication (Low and High Tech), patients with, Tracheostomies and PEG management.
Duties :
-
To conduct adult and paediatric speech, language, communication and feeding procedures in accordance with best practice guidelines. Assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with a variety of medical pathologies (strokes traumatic brain injury, burns, cancer, and progressive degenerative pathologies) independently within a multi-disciplinary team setting. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders. Planning and problem solving appropriately. Providing education and counselling to patients, family, caregivers and the public. Selecting issuing and training appropriate use of assistive devices. Documenting patient information, attending ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings and events. To comply with all hospital and departmental procedures and protocols: managing resources appropriately, contributing to service evaluation and improvement, implementing new services, monthly statistic reports, maintaining personal growth (CPD), and participation in all departmental, cluster, hospital and provincial activities, record keeping and student supervision and compliance with Performance Management and Development System (contracting, quarterly reviews, and final assessments)
