Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus a 4-year BSc Degree (NQF 8) in Agriculture /Agro-processing / Food Technology qualification as recognised by SAQA. 3-5 years’ experience in Agriculture/Agroprocessing environment. Valid driver’s license. COMPETENCIES: Knowledge and understanding of GPG and Public service regulations, PSR & PFMA, Understanding of the PSP and RSP, Understanding of policy development and corporate governance, Project management, Knowledge and understanding of departmental strategic plan and priorities, Understanding of the Department’ organization structure and functionality, Understanding of the political mandate strategic priorities, Agriculture Product Standards Act, Food safety systems (HACCP, ISO2200), Production/ handling/ manufacturing processes, Meat Safety Act, International agreements, conventions and bilateral agreements relating to sanitary and food quality matters, Related legislation (e.g Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, Trade and Metrology), regulations, norms and standards, Export and import requirements. Planning and organizing skills, Leadership skills, Financial Management, Strategy development, Project management, Knowledge management, Report writing, Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Presentation and facilitation, Computer literacy, Networking and Stakeholder relationship management.

Duties :

  • Provide effective support to new and existing Small and Medium Agro-processing enterprises across all the animal products (e.g. leather tanning) and meat value chains. Administer project management interventions aimed at assisting new and existing animal processing stakeholders with planning, development and operations of their processing plants embedding food safety and compliance. Working with the unit head, veterinary services, national department and municipalities, obtain, evaluate, update and disseminate the relevant information to keep Gauteng Agro-processing industries and other stakeholders informed of new policies, trends/ technical requirements/sanitary measures. Raise awareness on the application of animal processing product standards/ legislation/ policies/ guidelines/ checklists/ inspection procedures and standard operating procedures in the animal processing sector to increase productivity whilst ensuring food safety is enhanced in the province.
