Requirements :

• Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification.
• Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) qualification.
• Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of two (2) years' relevant experience in an Emergency Communication Centre, Emergency Medical Services, public safety communications, or a similar operational call centre environment.
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of web applications
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Duties :
-
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
• Receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• Obtaining accurate information from callers to determine the nature, location, and priority of incidents.
• Prioritising emergency calls using approved Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Dispatching the most appropriate emergency medical resources using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and radio communication equipment.
• Providing approved pre-arrival medical instructions to callers where applicable.
• Monitoring ambulance movements, response times, and resource availability.
• Maintaining continuous communication with operational crews and other emergency service agencies.
• Capturing and maintaining accurate electronic records of all incidents.
• Coordinating responses during major incidents, disasters, and mass casualty events.
• Ensuring compliance with departmental policies, operational procedures, and relevant legislation, including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
• Delivering professional, compassionate, and customer-centred service at all times.
• Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.

Must be submitted on online (GPG Professional Job Centre) on the prescribed form Z83 (obtainable from any Public Service Department office i.e. effective 01 January 2021 or on the DPSA web site link: https://www.dpsa.gov.za/newsroom/psvc/.
