Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Natural, Physical/Environmental planning fields. Minimum of 6 years relevant experience within environmental field as recognized by SAQA. Valid driver’s license. COMPETENCIES: Computer Literacy; good communication and writing skills, particularly with regards to drafting of Directives, Notices legal correspondence and reports, networking skills with stakeholders both in government and outside of government spheres; Ability and competency in interpreting and implementing policy, legislation, and guidelines. Good project management, interpersonal, coordination, and document management skills. Successfully completed Environmental Management Inspector training will be an added advantage.

Duties :

  • Attend to the environmental complaints received within the Gauteng province in relation to matters that impact on the environment and covered under the NEMA and SEMAs. Coordinate, manage and undertake inspections / investigations for complaints received by the Department. Review / drafting of notices and ensuring completion of process. Co-ordination, co-operate and assist with other directorates, other levels of government and other departments, stakeholders and agencies on joint work. Draft effective and legally defensible notices, directives and legal correspondences. Preparing site inspection and back to office reports for inspections conducted. Interpret and apply relevant legislation to activities encountered during inspections to determine its legality. Present findings of the inspections and recommend appropriate enforcement action(s) where necessary on non-compliances observed during inspections/investigations. Effectively utilize the information management system to manage the work within the Directorate.
