Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows for the required registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession in Environmental Health. Registration with the HPCSA in Environmental Health. No experience required after registration with the HPCSA in Environmental Health. The following will be an added advantage: 3 years’ experience as a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner and must be on a contract post in Gauteng Department of Health. Good communication skills (verbal and written), Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Presentation and Excel). Knowledge and understanding of policies and strategies of the department. Ability to interpret and apply policies. Ability to work independently and under pressure. Ability to lead and or operate within a multidisciplinary team. Good interpersonal relations skills. Ability to collect, collate, analyse information/data and write reports. Good financial management skills and knowledge of PFMA. Must have a valid driver’s licence.

Duties :

  • Assist and support hospital management to comply with Environmental Health related legislative prescripts, strategies, and guidelines of the department. Implement Water Quality monitoring. Food control monitoring. Waste Management and general hygiene monitoring including WASH. Health surveillance of premises. Surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases excluding immunizations, vector control monitoring, environmental pollution control, management of human remains and chemical safety. Ensure that the facility comply with general hygiene requirements. Implement the National Health Environment Management Plan Liaise with provincial EH Programme. Implement the national EH Norms and Standards and Support implementation of Ideal Hospital Framework to ensure quality health services. Participate and provide support in the infection and prevention control/Occupational Health and Safety teams and any committee which promotes environmental health. Promote and advocate for climate change mitigation strategies. Implement Heat Health Plan. Consolidate weekly, monthly and annual plans and reports. Assist with any other EH Related activities delegated by the supervisor/manager. Attend to environmental health related complaints.
