Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Management, Law or Natural/Physical Science. Minimum of 6 years relevant experience within environmental field as recognized by SAQA. Valid driver’s license. Good project management, writing, interpersonal, coordination and document management skills. Management skills. Computer Literacy. Communication Skills (Writing and Verbal Communication skills). Administration skills (registering and tracking documents, filling, etc). Problem solving. People management and empowerment. Ability and competency in interpreting and implementing policy, legislation, and guidelines Ability to work in a team and independently. Ability to work under pressure. Sound knowledge of environmental legislations and processes; sound and working knowledge of enforcement mechanisms and processes. Knowledge of NEMA and its SEMAs. Successfully completed EMI training is an added advantage.

Duties :

  • Coordinating, managing and conducting inspections / investigations for the Department with regard to contraventions of the environmental legislation administered / enforced by the Department in particular NEMA, ECA, NEMWA and NEMAQA. Coordinating / managing the preparation of site inspection reports / directives / compliance notices. Ensuring timeous service and follow-up procedures. Preparation of prosecution files by collating information and evidence to be presented for prosecution purposes. Preparation of reports (monthly, quarterly and annual) on inspections / investigations / administrative enforcement activities that are on-going within the Sub-directorate. Carry out the functions of an Environmental Management Inspector (EMI). Keep reliable statistics and records regarding day-to-day activities, monthly and quarterly performance as well as cases, complaints and investigations and the outcome thereof. Supervisory and management of personnel (including performance assessment and day to day management) as well as problem solving skills

Do you have A recognized tertiary qualification in Natural or Physical Sciences/Environmental Sciences/LLB or equivalent qualification
Do you have relevant experience in natural, physical or environmental planning fields and at least 3 years management and environmental law enforcement experience.
