Requirements :

  • Basic qualification accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) that allows for registration with the SAPC. Registration with SAPC as a Pharmacist and proof of current registration. RSA: No experience required after registration as a Pharmacist with SAPC in respect of RSA-qualified employees who performed community service in a relevant profession as required in SOUTH AFRICA. Foreigners: 1-year relevant experience after registration as a pharmacist with a recognised foreign health professions council in respect of foreign qualified employees, who are not required to perform community service as required in South Africa. Good calculation. Good computer skills. Basic research/data collection and analysis skills. Excellent teamwork skills. Team building, people skills, and interpersonal relations. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Good Communication skills (verbal and written). Highly motivated and enthusiastic to contribute to pharmacy services. The ability to work under pressure. The following will be An added advantage: 3 years’ experience as a qualified pharmacist and must be on a contract post in Gauteng Department of Health.

Duties :

  • Assist the management team in the running of the Pharmacy, including all 4 satellite pharmacies on the premises (Adult Oncology, Peads Oncology, ARV and Peads), including the following: Stores, Vaculiters store, and Ward stock Pharmacy. Taking part in identified and authorised research and development projects. Assist in the development of the annual pharmaceutical budget. Supervise all activities of all Pharmacy personnel. Must act as Mentors /Tutors for pharmacy assistants and interns. Provision of strategic and operational direction of pharmacy staff. Ensure quality pharmaceutical services which are in line with Batho Pele principles. An official must be conversant with the pharmaceutical policies and regulations. Ensure the availability and accessibility of essential medicines, including ARV’S, to all CMJAH patients. Assist with the training and development of Pharmacy personnel. Contribute to Pharmacy planning, budgeting and procurement processes as well as monitoring and evaluation. Participate in ward rounds and provide pharmaceutical care to inpatients, including therapeutic drug monitoring and stock management. Ensure compliance with legal, ethical and regulatory requirements, i.e., SAPC, IDEAL HOSPITAL FRAMEWORK, etc. Good Communications skills and a team player. Assist with the co-ordination of the implementation of the outcome of the provincial Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee decisions. Actively participate in the administrative duties of the pharmacy. Perform duties assigned by management. Maintain quality standards and other departmental policies. Co-ordinate the activities of other allied workers and supervise resources necessary to provide efficient pharmaceutical services. The Pharmacist must be prepared to be on Standby to render services after hours according to the needs of the institution. The provision of extended hours is vital in a very busy institution, as patients need to be served and not allowed to go home without their medications. The Pharmacist on Standby must ensure that all patients are served and close the pharmacy.
