Requirements :

  • Requirements: Grade 12 plus National Diploma (NQF Level 6)/bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in the Environmental Management/Sciences or relevant Natural Sciences fields as recognised by SAQA. 0-2 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in the environmental and waste management fields. Valid driver’s license. Competencies: Computer literacy. Good writing and communication skills. Knowledge of Legislation (NEMA and others). Good understanding of Gauteng development plans. Understanding of Public Service legislations and regulations and departmental policies. Experience in the environmental and waste management fields. Knowledge of environmental and waste management regulatory framework.

Duties :

  • Review Waste Management License applications. Provide technical input on EIA applications. Process the registration certificates and authorisations as per the Gauteng Waste Information Regulations, 2004 and Gauteng Health Care Waste Management Regulations, 2004. Process registration applications in terms of National Norms and Standards for Storage of General Waste, 2013 and the National Norms and Standards for Sorting, Shredding, Grinding, Crushing, Screening or Baling of General Waste, 2017, National Norms and Standards for Organic Waste Composting, 2017 and National Norms and Standards for the Treatment of Organic Waste, 2020. Manage waste management stakeholder relations and enquiries. Provide comments to other directorates and on draft regulations and policies. Conduct site visits and prepare site visit reports. Maintain various waste management data-bases. Assist in compliance promotion and contribute to law reform as well as relevant policies and strategies in the Department. Filing and document management (e.g. registering documents on the system) minute taking, organising meetings etc to ensure the efficient running of the Directorate. Organise workshops/conferences as required.
