An appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the HPCSA Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Practitioner. Current registration with HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Occupational Therapy post community service, of which 2 years should include supervisory experience. Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook) will be an added advantage. Working knowledge of quality assurance measures and performance management systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to interact with patients, their families, the multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders. Exhibit leadership and management skills. Knowledge of public service legislations, policies and procedures as well as the Public Finance and Management Act. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory or management experience, post-graduate qualification diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy will be an added advantage and candidates with proven experience in an acute clinical care setting who also provide supervision of occupational therapists, mid-level workers and OT students. Experience in a public service hospital would be an added benefit.
Duties :
-
Render an Occupational Therapy services in allocated area of work that complies with the standards and norms as indicated by Health Policies in the Psychiatric and Physical fields. Manage (plan, coordinate and implement) occupational therapy services in sub sections and manage own patient load. Provide leadership in relevant sub-sections. Provide expert advice on complicated clinical conditions and assistive devices. Co-ordinate all relevant meetings effectively, taking on a leadership role. In the absence of the head of the department, the chief occupational therapist is expected to attend relevant meetings and assume relevant functions of the HOD. Monitor, motivate and procure equipment and other resources needed within the department. Promote and implement ongoing research/projects in the sub-sections. Assist with implementing and monitoring effective record keeping, accurate statistics collection and analysis and high standards of quality assurance. Supervise and manage performance of production level therapists, community service therapists and OT technicians and OT students. Ensure teaching and skills transference. Monitor proper utilization of human and material resources within the department. Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Manage and implement consultation services to cluster facilities. Manage down referrals of occupational therapy patients. Communicate effectively with all colleagues, subordinates and relevant stakeholders. Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluating. Manage finances in alignment with the demand plan. Submit monthly reports to the HOD. Ensure compliance quality assurance measures according to norms. Identify and report on risks. Facilitate and participate in student training. Participate in and facilitate professional and generic development programs of yourself and subordinates. Develop and implement guidelines and protocols in line with National and Provincial strategies.
