Matric/Senior Certificate or Grade 12. National Diploma, Degree in Ultrasound Radiography OR appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South African (HPCSA) as a Sonographer. Proof of registration with HPCSA as an independent diagnostic Radiographer, current annual registration with HPCSA for 2025-2026 and proof of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) compliance. Minimum of three (3) years’ appropriate experience as a Sonographer. Working knowledge and experience in ultrasound radiography principles, systems and procedures performed within the radiology department. Sound supervisory skills. Knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities, knowledge of specialized equipment and ultrasound practice and prescripts. Knowledge of Public Service policies, acts and regulations including the PFMA, HRM policies, OHS policies, etc. Knowledge of HPCSA and SAHPRA legislation pertaining to Ultrasound Radiography. Knowledge of Ideal Hospital Framework, Health and Safety and Infection Control principles. Computer literacy, time management skills, good interpersonal skills, teamwork, written and verbal communication skills, negotiation skills, problem solving, strategic planning, organizational skills and report writing. Honesty, integrity, and good ethical conduct. Knowledge of Public Service legislation, policies and procedures. Knowledge of current public hospital operational system, DOH guidelines and policies governing the health sector and Radiography profession.
Duties :

Responsible for the management and delivery of a comprehensive and effective Ultrasound imaging service. Discuss issues of image interpretation with clinicians to ensure optimum outcome for the patient at the time of attendance to include recognition of acute pathology which may be also discussed with a radiologist. Interpret clinicians’ requirements to determine the appropriate scanning technique and ensure it is performed and reported on, in accordance with best practice. Develop and maintain skills to the highest level. Use initiative in adaptive techniques to protocols to optimize image quality. To utilize advanced technical knowledge and experience to advise and solve problems when confronted by clinical or technical issues. Provide clinical sonography service by implementation of departmental policies & procedures, performance of imaging examinations, clinical training, coordinate in-service training, supervision and monitoring (EPMDS) of junior staff, whilst adhering to ultrasound radiography imaging protocols, practices, and techniques. Ensuring that safety protocols and quality standards in compliance with the Department of Health policies and procedures are adhered to. Manage departmental workflow to ensure uninterrupted coverage and minimal waiting times. Liaise with internal and external departments/ stakeholders and outreach for service improvement. Perform forensic imaging studies for medico-legal purposes within the scope of training, reporting and management of patient safety incidents (PSI). Perform administrative duties as required. Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement project, Ideal Hospital compliance and quality improvement plan. Prepare the Demand Plan, ensure HR mandatory compliance, stock control, effective, statistics and efficient management of resources. Procurement, maintenance and management of assets and equipment as per manufacturers, Supply Chain Management and PFMA guidelines. Perform all delegated departmental tasks, ensure ultrasound service delivery.
