Requirements :

  • Matric or ABET equivalent. Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Auxiliary Worker. Registration certificate from the SACSSP. Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Profession (SACSSP). Grade 1: No years of experience required . Grade 2: 10 years’ experience required after registration as a Social Auxiliary Worker. Grade 3: 20 years’ experience required after registration as a Social Auxiliary Worker. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a team and be computer literate. Ability to work under pressure in a changing environment and to relieve colleagues as the need arises. (Code B/ED) Drivers’ licence compulsory. Willingness to travel.

Duties :

  • Perform basic assessments / screening of patients’ socio-economic circumstances and nature of their problems and provide information and refer to relevant/appropriate community resources. Provide basic counselling, support and encouragement to patients and families who do not need professional counselling. Assist the Social Worker with the exploration of possible and available facilities for placement according to the need. Assist the Social Worker with groups and or community outreach projects and/or conduct group care, e.g. climate group meeting (as part of MDT). Assist in the smooth running of the social work department by providing the necessary supporting role to other social workers and the Head of Department. Manage and complete all patient related administration tasks as instructed by the social worker. Assist in compilation and submission of accurate statistics by due date. Must be able to work within teams including social work teams and the multidisciplinary teams. Must be able to plan and organize own work. Participate in the Performance Management and Development System. Must be willing to rotate within the department. Must attend and actively participate in the Social work and MDT Continuous Professional Development activities. Ability to prepare and do presentations when required. To liase with MDT and partner with external stakeholders in linking patients with external service providers. To initiate awareness programs relevant to social work as stipulated in the health Calander. To be actively involved and participate in MDT awareness campaigns.
