Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF level 8) in Natural Resource Management, Nature Conservation, Conservation Biology, Biological Science, Natural Science, Wildlife Management, Environmental Management or relevant qualifications as recognised by SAQA. Minimum of 6 years’ experience working in a relevant Biodiversity/Wildlife Management/Nature conservation environment. Compulsory registration with SACNASP. A valid driver`s. License . COMPETENCIES: Knowledge and understanding of Biodiversity monitoring and research, relevant SA environmental and biodiversity legislation and able to apply them. Management of data and archiving. Knowledge of biodiversity conservation principles. Policy development and analysis, Program and Project Management. Computer literacy, including knowledge of GIS. Statistical analysis and modelling. Good report writing skills. People management skills. Assets stewardship and management. Good administration, Planning and organizing skills. Good problem-solving ability. Presentation skills. Understanding of Environmental Sector indicators, Global Biodiversity Framework and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans

Duties :

  • Manage and administer the Scientific Technical Component, remain current with relevant validation methods, technical standards and techniques. Develop operational plan, action plan, financial and assets management plans. Decision support function between the directorate and different role players and units within GDEnv (Administer the flow of EIA/Compliance & Enforcement, Biodiversity Permits files, etc). Manage the coordination and input into development of relevant policies, legislation, regulations, strategies, and guidelines. Participate, consult and coordinate the submission of the Directorate inputs to national legislation/policies. Project management of science-policy related projects of the Directorate, including the Biodiversity Offset projects. Science-Policy interface function: management of the Science-Policy forums, establishment and strengthen partnerships that supports biodiversity and conservation. Biodiversity awareness raising through international calendar days. Compilation of the sector reports of the directorate and submit monthly, quarterly and annually to DFFE and other relevant organisations. Collaborating with various stakeholders within the GDEnv, other spheres of government, parastatals, academic institutions, the public and various interest groups. Manage and ensure the development of human resources through mentoring and coordination of their duties. Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for field staff.
