Requirements :

  • Basic qualification accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice 425 or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse with midwifery. Registration with SANC as Professional Nurse with midwifery. A minimum of 8 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience at management/shift leader level, preferably operational manager level. A Management qualification will be an advantage. The candidate must be able to work in a busy high-pressured environment and lead a team to resolve conflict, maintain quality patient care and work within the legal and ethical framework that governs the profession. Manage staff, adhere to cost containment measures, and provide supervision to subordinates and multidisciplinary staff. Ability to work independently. Manage human resources, leave management and performance management. Good communication and report writing skills. Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes, and other relevant legal frameworks such as: Nursing Act, Health Act, OHS Act, Patient Rights Charter, Batho-Pele principles, Public Service regulations, Labour Relations Act, Disciplinary Code and Procedure, Grievance Procedure, etc. Skills: Leadership, organizational, decision making, problem-solving abilities, goods communication, good supervisory and the ability to work within the limit of the public sector and institutional policy framework. This is a permanent night duty post the candidate must adhere to all policies required for this post, shift work, weekends and public holidays. Must be computer literate (Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook) and be able to analyse data. The candidate must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills at the interview and complete a short Quality Improvement Plan as part of the introduction, immediately before the interview.

Duties :

  • Coordination of optimal, holistic specialised nursing care provided within set standards of a professional/ legal framework. Effectively manage the utilisation and supervision of human, financial and material resources. Co-ordination of the provision of effective training and research. Provision of effective support to nursing services. Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development. Compilation of midnight statistics, Report writing, monitoring and reporting of patient safety incidents to relevant departments according to guidelines and internal Standard operating procedures. Work closely with the medical superintendent on call.
