Appropriate qualification/s as Medical Specialist in Paediatrics, which allows registration with the Health Professions Council
of South Africa (HPCSA) as a sub-specialist in Community Paediatrics (or eligible for immediate ‘grandfathering’). Proof of current HPCSA registration as a paediatrician/ subspecialist for April 2023/March 2024. A minimum of 3 years as a specialist or subspecialist. Qualification with a post-graduate degree in a child or public health related field (Masters or PhD). A valid
driver’s license. Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, involvement in research and management skills will be of an added advantage. Competence/Knowledge/Skills: Good leadership skills, excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, conflict resolution and good interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must be adaptable, disciplined, and self-confident. The candidate must be able to work independently and under pressure and beyond normal working hours and work with diverse teams. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Aptitude for increasing the “footprint” of paediatric services across the CHBAH hospital cluster. Clinical skillset to manage high volume patient numbers, have clinical experience
to adequately manage patients accordingly. Understanding of basic human resource matters including labour relations. Knowledge of legislative prescripts governing public service and child health. Publication of at least five peer-reviewed papers.
Duties :

Oversee Promote the aim of universal access to quality healthcare services under the National Health Insurance. Ensure the delivery of comprehensive child healthcare, early intervention and prevention, continuity of care, health education, and effective collaboration among child healthcare providers within the cluster supported by CHBAH. Lead the ongoing development of effective regional referral pathways, through monitoring of paediatric and neonatal referrals to CHBAH, analysing paediatric illness patterns and prioritizing child health responses. Co-ordinate and support availability of appropriate care for the cluster’s needs at the hospital’s out-patient and specialist clinics (up and down referral). Communicate and co-ordinate activities with the district clinical specialist team. Perform commuted overtime in the paediatric casualty/ outpatient department. Co-ordinate and manage under-graduate and post-graduate maternal and child health training at the University of the Witwatersrand, including registrar education, and the Masters in Child Health (MSc) and in Public Health (MPH). Conduct quality improvement projects and research on priority child health problems. Offer leadership and support to national and provincial-level initiatives through membership of ministerial committees and national, provincial and district working groups. Perform any other clinical, managerial, or administrative duties as may be required by the head of the department. Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (contracting, quarterly reviews and final assessment.
