Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Seven (7) years relevant experience after registration with SACSSP. Recognised Bachelor's degree in Social Work. • Proof of current registration as a social worker with SACSSP. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a health care environment will be an added advantage as well as the previous experience with the supervision of qualified social workers. Experience in a mental health setting will be an added advantage. Knowledge of Public service legislation, policies and procedures as well as that of the Social Work profession as applies to the health sector. Demonstrate good understanding of mental health legislations, policies and guidelines. Good verbal and written communication skills, report writing skills, supervision skills, computer literacy, financial and human resource management skills. Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary context • Analytic thinking, independent decision making and problem-solving skills • A valid driver’s license and be able to drive.

Duties :

  • Ensure provision of quality social work services in a proficient and integrated manner in the district and monitor the effectiveness of the social work interventions. Overall management of administrative and clinical supervision of social workers. Implementation of the Supervision policy and conduct PMDS for social workers. Ensure implementation of Quality assurance and develop appropriate quality improvement plans for social work services. Facilitate district referral pathways for social work including hospitals and other relevant stakeholders. Ensure planning and implementation of effective mental health promotion and education activities. Ability to implement progressive disciplinary measures. Manage and support the programme within the scope, professional and statutory requirements of the SACSSP and social work profession. Provide input into the compilation of the strategic and operational plans of the programme and district. Collect data, analyse monthly statistics to plan workload allocation and submit reports. Assist with clinical work where there is a shortage of staff. Ensure professional development of staff and adherence to CPD requirements. Study, interpret, apply and give information on legislation. Study professional journals and publications in order to ensure that cognisance is taken of new developments. Undertake Research and development. Expand communication with relevant partners and stakeholders. Represent the department and the district at various forums and meetings as per delegation; internally or externally and implement the decisions and plans taken at the district level. Participate in district management and committee meetings. Promote and implement routine ongoing training for social work across all levels of care. Manage and utilize resources in accordance with relevant directives and legislation (Human, Financial, Physical, and Material resources. Be willing to work with fewer resources and under pressure. Perform any reasonable duties as allocated by management.
