Requirements :

  • MBBCh (or equivalent), FCFP(SA). Registration with HPCSA as a specialist Family Physician with Independent Practice at the time of starting employment. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Family Physician with evidence of academic exposure will be an added advantage. Must demonstrate clinical, managerial and academic leadership. Must understand the District Health System/Primary Health care and Gauteng referral pathways. Demonstrate ability in undertaking quality improvement initiatives and clinical research. Possession of current BLS, ATLS, ACLS, AMLS or BEST certificates. Experience in internship training and supervision. Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Duties :

  • Simultaneously reporting to the Head of Clinical Unit (Family Medicine), Johannesburg Health District and the Clinical manager at HJH, the incumbent will: Co-ordinate patient care and provide leadership at the Polyclinic in HJH and across Family Medicine service points in Regions B and C of the Johannesburg Health District. Personally provide patient care at the Polyclinic, HJH and designated CHC and PHC facilities in Regions B and C of the Johannesburg Health District. Provide clinical governance in primary care through the implementation of quality improvement processes relating to patient care and health systems, in consultation with other stakeholders as well as on-going auditing of other challenges. Be a member of the MAC at HJH and provide support and collegiality to other specialties within HJH. Perform commuted overtime, Option D, in the Emergency Medicine Department at HJH. As a joint appointment with the Division of Family Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine, University of the Witwatersrand. Participate in the Family Medicine academic training programs for Medical students, Clinical Associate students and Registrars. Supervision of MMEDs and research projects. Participate in relevant primary care research to improve patient care and health systems. Teaching and supervision: Supervise and train junior clinicians such as Medical Interns, Medical Officers, Clinical Associates and PHC Nurses. Provide leadership at the Polyclinic at Helen Joseph Hospital. Establish and implement the new six-month medical internship rotation in the Family Medicine domain with key stakeholders at both HJH and the district. Manage the performance of subordinates. Perform other duties, as may be determined by the Head of the Clinical Unit (Johannesburg District Family Medicine Unit) and Clinical manager (HJH).
