Requirements :

  • Masters of Science (NQF level 9) as well as registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Reproductive Biology as a Medical Biological Scientist. A minimum of 5 years actual service and experience after registration with the HPCSA at a Supervisory level in an Assisted Reproductive Biology Laboratory; of which (3) years partaking supervision of HPCSA intern medical science training in Reproductive Biology; demonstrate a publication record with research outputs in Web of Science. Competencies: Strong leadership and practical capabilities in assisted reproduction techniques, evidence-based technology developmental skills and continual development of scientific knowledge and applications. Aptitude in problem solving and troubleshooting in assisted reproduction techniques, proficiency in service-delivery, experience with advance laboratory equipment and research related databases; Statistical validations, interpretations and applications of research based and quality control results. Experience in the HPCSA training program for medical biological scientist interns in Reproductive Biology. Good communication and interpersonal skills; accuracy and attention to detail; Good administration and organizing skills of daily laboratory operations; Ability to work under pressure, independently and self-motivated.

Duties :

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the goals of the department. Work within a team to manage the Assisted Reproduction program. This entails service delivery, though the development, implementation and monitoring of guidelines for operational efficiency. This also include risk (prevention-based activities) and total quality management. Short and Long-term planning to integrate resources with policies and required activities. Monitor laboratory systems, and process outcomes, to determine skills training standards of staff and interns. Administrative functions including performance management of staff and students according to set policies and to monitor continuous education development of the team. Create an environment of continuous technology development, education and training, through the awareness of the most relevant tools and techniques. Motivate and guide interns according to the HPCSA curriculum, guidelines and subject specific documentation. Initiate, supervise and support research projects and proposals for post-graduate studies.
