Requirements :

  • A Basic R425 qualification (i.e., diploma/ degree in nursing) that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse and a Midwife. One (1) year Post Basic Qualification in Advance Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science (R212). A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in the relevant specialty. Proof of current registration with SANC as a professional nurse. A qualification in Nursing Administration. Demonstrates competency in computer literacy. Knowledge of Health, Nursing and Public Service Legislation is recommended. Strong leadership, good communication and sound interpersonal skills are necessary.

Duties :

  • Manage and co-ordinate the implementation of a holistic, comprehensive, specialised nursing care in the Maternity component within set standards. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors, and other multi-disciplinary team within and outside of the hospital. Initiate programmes that will ensure quality nursing care in the specialised area. Ensure implementation and promotion of Quality Assurance programmes (complaints and patient safety management), Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health and Safety principles. Promote quality of nursing care as directed by the Office of Health Standard Compliance & Ideal Hospital Realisation and Maintenance Framework. Ability to organise and plan own work, time, and that of support staff to ensure quality patient care. Manage all resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner (human, financial and material). Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development. Be able to provide relief services at supervisory/management level, after hours cover, work on weekends and on holidays as per need. Ensure interdepartmental work relationship. Implement relevant recommendations and priorities of the National Strategic Plan for Nurse Education, Training and Practice. Participate in realisation of the Hospital Operational Plan. Monitor performance using Management and Development System. Coordinate and organise departmental quality improvement meetings (Perinatal Problem Identification Programme, morbidity and mortality).Provide comprehensive mother,women,child and neonatal services. Conduct periodic audits and develop quality improvement plans.
