Requirements :

  • An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical specialist in Anaesthesiology or Medical Sub-specialist in Critical Care and or Sub-specialist in Pulmonology (both Adult and Paediatrics). A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience as a Specialist after registration with the HPCSA .

Duties :

  • Overall governance including Clinical Governance, of the general adult Critical Care services. Overall strategic and operational management of the general adult Critical Care services of the hospital (medical and surgical). Development, implementation and monitoring of critical care clinical protocols and guidelines. Manage resources planning, provision and utilisation in the general critical care services. Govern access to the general critical care services and its resources. Deliver clinical services in Critical Care, including commuted overtime. Liaise with hospital management and clinicians to ensure quality Critical Care services. Ensure a Critical Care outreach program to relevant healthcare facilities. Academic responsibility for teaching and learning at under- and post-graduate level.
