Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery plus MMed (Rad D) or FC Rad Diagnostics (SA). Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Radiology with minimum of seven (7) years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in Radiology. Extensive and appropriate experience in all aspects of Radiology- clinical care, teaching, and research. Certificates of service for all periods of employment. Proven management ability, sound communication (verbal and written) skills, leadership skills, decision making and interpersonal skills. Proof of current registration with the HPCSA 2025/2026.

The Department of Radiology is based at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and affiliated with the University of Pretoria. This is a joint academic, full-time, permanent appointment. The Head of Radiology will provide overall strategic, academic, and clinical leadership for the department across both the hospital and university platforms. The role includes ensuring high-quality, evidence-based radiological services; strengthening clinical governance; improving diagnostic accuracy and turnaround times; ensuring optimal use of imaging resources; and maintaining compliance with national policies, radiation-safety standards, and institutional protocols. The post involves leading and coordinating all teaching and training activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including registrars in diagnostic radiology and related fields. The incumbent will also drive the departmental research agenda, support postgraduate research, and promote innovation in imaging practice and technology adoption. Duties may include participation in after-hours service, call duties, and other institutional responsibilities as required.
