MBChB, MMed(Ophth)/FC Ophth, HPCSA registration as Medical Specialist in Ophthalmology. Proof of current registration with the HPCSA 2025/2026.
Duties :

The department of Ophthalmology is based at Steve Biko Academic hospital and affiliated with the University of Pretoria. This will be a joint academic post. This is a full time, permanent position for a Head of Department Consultant Ophthalmology at Steve Biko Academic hospital. The candidate should have full registration in ophthalmology with the health professional Council of South Africa. Clinical duties include running ophthalmology clinics and theatres, ophthalmology planning and treatment, participation in multi-disciplinary team meetings, supervision and training of registrars. Academic participation includes participation in research activities, lecturing undergraduate and post graduate students in medical and affiliated fields at all training sites. Duties include compulsory overtime and ward cover.
