Requirements :

  • Grade 12/National Certificate or equivalent. : A Basic R.425 qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows for registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse. A Degree in Nursing/Post basic qualification in Nursing Education and Nursing Administration registered with. Current registration with SANC. Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing or Psychology Level 3. Moderator and Assessor course registered with SANC. Minimum of 9 years’ appropriate/recognized nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse and Midwife/ Accoucheur. A minimum of 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience as a Lecturer or Counsellor after obtaining the nursing education qualification (less 1-year experience for candidates appointed from outside the Public Service after complying with registration requirements). A valid Drivers’ licence. Knowledge of procedures related to management of data/records. Ability to work in a team and under pressure. A minimum of three years of appropriate recognizable experience in student counselling environment will be added advantage. Thorough knowledge and application of the SANC legislation, Code of Ethics, Nursing Standards and Scope of Practice, Public Service Prescripts; legislation relevant to Higher Education. Knowledge of Human Resource and Finance management. Experience in planning, organizing, evaluation, leading and controlling. Good communication, supervisory, report writing and presentation skills. Computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint. A valid driver’s license.

Duties :

  • Management and supervision of the Student Counselling and Development Department. Plan and manage learner counselling and support programmes. Implement life and study skills for students. Assessment and referral of individual students with personal problems. Promote general welfare, personal and professional development of students. Support and guidance of students. Conduct classroom presentation to improve academic performance. Policy development, review, and evaluation. Participate in planning and implementation of graduation and prize giving ceremonies. Report on all Student Counselling matters. Communicate with the relevant stakeholders to ensure an effective learning and teaching environment. Participate in the daily management of the Campus activities.
