Requirements :

  • MBchB/MBBCh or equivalent qualification and proof of completion of community service. Appropriate qualification and work experience that allows registration with the HPCSA as Registrar (Medical). This is a post-graduate training position, registrar (Medical) in Forensic Pathology, on the JOINT STAFF ESTABLISHMENT of the Gauteng Forensic Pathology Service (Ga-Rankuwa FPS) and the Department of Forensic Pathology, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Willingness to complete all prescribed training and academic requirements within the prescribed training period. Ability and willingness to perform duties outside of normal hours and away from base of employment when required, including overnight and weekend calls, with availability at the relevant Facility / scene within 30 - 45 minutes of the call being logged; A valid driver’s license. Willingness to be trained how to perform medico-legal death investigations, including performance of forensic autopsies. Willingness to be trained to give evidence in courts. Ability to give a lecture. Computer literacy (MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint). Willingness to be trained on relevant FPS legislation and policies. Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. Diploma in Forensic Pathology or Diploma Clinical Forensic Medicine and or experience in Forensic Pathology Service and or in Clinical Forensic Medicine practice and or Certificate in Medicine and Law or equivalent will be added advantage/s.

Duties :

  • Providing comprehensive medico-legal investigation of death services, inclusive of death scene attendance, after-hour services during the week and over weekends, performance of forensic post mortem examinations including medico-legal autopsies, preparation of relevant medico-legal reports and Court attendance; Active participation in own MMed research activities within the Department; Training in the performance of microscopic histopathological examinations and training on relevant cases; Supporting the implementation of a standardized, quality forensic pathology service by providing training for professional and support staff; Participation in teaching, research and learning activities in the Department; Assist in academic and management duties. Professional management of own work to avoid backlogs; active follow-up on unavoidable backlog. Active management of own service, teaching, training and related administrative work and comply with the routine generation of service work, OHS, statistical and HR reports. Rendering other related professional services and duties as may be assigned from time to time.
