The suitable candidate must hold an appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Diagnostic Radiographer and must provide proof of independent practice registration. They must also be certified and registered with the HPCSA as a Mammographer, with evidence of valid and up-to-date registration. A successful candidate must have minimum of four (4) years’ experience in general Diagnostic Radiography.Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is essential, including Excel (data entry, formatting, basic formulas, and table creation), PowerPoint (presentations and visual reporting), Outlook (email and calendar management), and Word (document creation and formatting). The candidate must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong time-management abilities, honesty, integrity, and a solid work ethic. Sound interpersonal skills, including effective conflict resolution, are also required. A thorough understanding of the HPCSA Radiographers’ Scope of Practice and SAHPRA regulatory requirements is essential, along with familiarity with key legislation, policies, and guidelines such as the Hazardous Substances Act 15 of 1973, the National Health Act 61 of 2003, the Health Professions Act 56 of 1974, the Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1999, and applicable Supply Chain Management processes and prescripts. The candidate must be willing and available to respond to crises or disaster situations outside normal working hours. It is mandatory for the candidate to be capable and willing to (1) perform general diagnostic radiography duties according to assigned shifts and (2) rotate across all radiography units, including theatre, general radiography, mobile units, CT, mammography, and MRI. A sound knowledge of mammography procedures and modalities for demonstrating breast anatomy and physiology, including an understanding of invasive procedures and associated safety standards, is mandatory. Knowledge of disciplinary and grievance procedures is required. Supervisory or managerial experience in radiography, together with expertise in quality assurance program, mammography unit supervision, and inventory management systems, will be considered an added advantage.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, managing, and supervising the Mammography Unit, reporting directly to the Assistant Director: Radiography. They will perform mammographic and general diagnostic radiography examinations, ensure the production of high-quality diagnostic images, and assist with specialized or invasive procedures in accordance with approved clinical protocols and departmental standards across all assigned shifts. The candidate must ensure that all mammography services comply with HPCSA and SAHPRA regulations, as well as other applicable legislation and policies, while applying both basic and advanced principles of mammography. The successful candidate must perform general diagnostic radiography duties on all assigned shifts and must be able to rotate seamlessly across all radiography units, including theatre, general radiography, mobile units, CT, mammography, and MRI. Key duties also include teaching and mentoring radiographers and students, retrieving and organizing laboratory results, and compiling, analyzing, and presenting relevant statistics to support clinical and managerial decision-making. This role requires strong leadership and operational oversight of diagnostic radiography personnel to ensure smooth workflow, reduced patient waiting times, and optimal service delivery. The incumbent will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders through active communication, participation in meetings, and comprehensive reporting to drive continuous improvement of services. The candidate will manage radiographic equipment in alignment with the Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance Framework, SAHPRA and OHSC standards, and all relevant regulatory requirements. This includes overseeing equipment maintenance, statutory compliance, and effective management of contracts and Service Level Agreements. They will also contribute to the implementation of the Ideal Hospital/Clinic Realization Framework and support 24-hour radiography service delivery aligned with the Department of Health’s mission and vision, while enforcing PFMA-compliant cost-containment measures to promote financial efficiency. Additional responsibilities include monitoring and reporting Patient Safety Incidents, conducting root-cause analyses, and developing and monitoring Quality Improvement Plans. The successful candidate will manage inventory systems, coordinate leave, oversee staff rosters, and ensure accurate performance management, including contracting, assessments, and professional development initiatives as part of the PMDS process. They will also address complaints, labour relations matters, and disciplinary issues as required, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation to maintain operational integrity within the Radiography department.
