Requirements :

  • Grade 12 with MBCHB qualification. Postgraduate degree in Public Health (MMed PHM & FCPHM qualifications. Current registration with the HPCSA as a Public health specialist. Note: This will be a joint academic appointment with department of Community Medicine at the School of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Witwatersrand, started at the level of Lecturer and based on university requirements. Reporting will be to the current service and academic head of the public health unit in Ekurhuleni.

Duties :

  • Includes, but not limited to education, training and research activities(including clinical audits), including supervision and examination of medical students and registrars in the specialty and in the service platform. Conduct own research and participate in district research committee, including chairing, reviewing of research protocols, building research capacity, organizing annual district research conference and other related activities. Function and lead a multi-disciplinary team in the district in various activities related to health system strengthening broadly, including developing the sub districts, health programme support, improving population health outcome, disease control, health education and health promotion related activities. Train and teach district staff and other stakeholders when required. Membership and participation in relevant committees, task teams and projects at various levels in the health system. A comprehensive job description and annual performance management contract in line with post cope and district requirements will be signed annually. It must be noted that commuted overtime is not automatically associated with this post, however the successful candidate can explore and fill gaps in clinical commuted overtime in the primary health care and hospital services within the Ekurhuleni Health District, for which a separate annual contract will be signed with the relevant district facility. Facilitate and support the provision of primary health care services in the district including clinics, Community health centres and district hospitals as part of DHS. Improve clinical quality of PHC services through direct patient care, mentoring and supervising health care professionals through integrated programmes. Participate in 24hour PHC services including Medico-legal and EMS. Improve clinical skills, protocols & guidelines usage and referrals in accordance with National and Provincial strategy. Support the development of the clinical department of family medicine and participate in academic teaching and learning in family medicine and PHC in the district. Support the provision of CPD/CME activities for medical officers, nurses, interns and community service doctors in the district. Support/participate in the development of district research projects.
