Requirements :

  • A Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent Clinical Psychologist with up to date annual registration. At least one year of experience as a practicing clinical psychologist after registration with the HPCSA. Evidence of psychological work in a public service psychiatric context during internship and after registration with the HPCSA. Knowledge of policies, protocols and guidelines pertaining to mental health care services in the South African and psycho-legal contexts. Special interests and experience in neuropsychology, forensic psychology, substance rehabilitation psychological programs, and working with the state patients will be an advantage. Be able to supervise intern clinical psychologists and work within multidisciplinary teams and offer evaluation, care, treatment or rehabilitation to various categories of mental health care users and other applicants who meet the HPCSA-PSB terms to independently supervise intern clinical psychologist within one year are eligible to apply for this position. Be able to work as a joint-appointee in an academic and hospital setting and evidence of the ability to teach. Be able to offer academic services including teaching and learning, conduct outreach activities with relevant communities ad stakeholders. Good planning, organizing , problem solving and team building skills. Computer Literacy: MS Word, Excel, Power point and MS Outlook. Knowledge of Revenue Management Policies. Good verbal and written communication. Ability to meet deadlines. Valid driver's license.

Duties :

  • The position is a joint-appointment post at the Clinical Psychology Unit at the University of Pretoria and Weskoppies hospital. Duties include the ability to: Plan and implement cost effective, sustainable psychology services. Ability to perform various forensic and neuro-psychology passements within the scope of clinical psychology. Apply specialized knowledge of evidence-based techniques in the field. Apply knowledge of relevant acts, regulations and policies. Comfortable with communicating to small and large groups of people in various platforms. Supervise and train interns clinical psychologists on academic and practical clinical activities and have ability to evaluate their internship progress formally. Attend regular clinical meetings, MDT meetings, and unit/ward-rounds. Assit with training of intern clinical psychologists, psychiatry registars and other staff members, where relevant. Independently regulate professional development of own academic and clinical practice skills and qualifications. Engage in regular clinical and academic committees as a member. Implement and manage the performance management & development system in the unit. Monitor & motivate for equipment and other resources. Assist with implementing and monitoring of effective record keeping, collecting, analyzing and reporting accurate statistics. Monitor and evaluate high standards of quality assurance. Contribute effectively in the staff, committees and multidisciplinary team meetings. Develop, implement and monitor Standard Operating Procedures and policies for improved service delivery.
