Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or Bachelor of Speech Therapy. Current proof of registration with HPCSA as a Speech Therapist & Audiologist or as a Speech Therapist. Candidates must be CPD compliant in accordance with HPCSA rules. Sound knowledge of clinical theory, practice and ethics relating to the delivery of Speech & Audiology services within a hospital setting. Minimum of 9 months’ experience in a regional, tertiary or academic hospital setting in Paediatrics which must be verifiable. Ability to make appropriate independent decisions and be able to work in a Multidisciplinary team.
Duties :

To screen, assess and manage patients within the Speech Therapy Department for speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Medical pathologies include cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders, syndromes, cleft lip/palate. Must have a high interest in paediatric dysphagia. Be part of multidisciplinary clinics such as Neurodevelopmental, Neonatal follow up, PEG clinic, ASD Clinic and UNHS (Universal Newborn Hearing Screening). Plan and conduct group therapy: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism etc. Work in a multi-disciplinary team. Contribute to the Case Management of CP Litigation Cases in making sure that the hospital complies with the court order. Promotion and marketing of Speech Therapy and Audiology services. Attend and participate in bi-monthly journal clubs and staff meetings. Collect and assist with analysing and interpreting statistics. Contribute to budget planning and cost control, request, repair and maintenance of all therapeutic equipment, speech therapy consumables and assistive devices for the Speech and Audiology equipment. Assist in mentoring community service therapists. Supervise students where applicable. Participate in Performance Management Development System (PMDS). Represent the department at the Speech and Audiology Forum, Cluster meetings and or Rehabilitation Forum as per delegation. Participate in fundraising activities. Participate in Quality assurance and Ideal Hospital Framework Assessments and audits as required.
