Requirements :

  • Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery plus MMed (Rad D) or FC Rad Diagnostics (SA). Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Radiology with minimum of five (5) years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in Radiology. Extensive experience and Competence in General Radiology, Sonar, Mammography, CT, MRI, PET/CT, Angiography and Intervention. Proof of current registration with the HPCSA from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Experience in teaching and learning, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Duties :

  • Provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership for the Radiology Department by ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centred and evidence-based diagnostic imaging services in accordance with National Department of Health policies, Gauteng Department of Health directives, HPCSA standards and relevant legislation. Manage, supervise and develop all medical, nursing, radiography and support personnel within the unit, including performance planning, performance monitoring, coaching, mentoring, PMDS implementation, disciplinary management and staff development. Lead clinical governance, quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, radiation safety, morbidity and mortality reviews, risk management and continuous quality assurance programmes. Oversee the planning, prioritisation and utilisation of radiology services, equipment and human resources to ensure optimal service delivery and reduced patient waiting times. Manage the departmental budget and resources in compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations and departmental financial prescripts by ensuring efficient expenditure, cost containment, revenue management, prevention of fruitless and wasteful expenditure, and sound financial governance. Oversee supply chain management processes by identifying procurement needs, developing equipment replacement and maintenance plans, managing specifications, participating in bid evaluations where required, monitoring contracts, ensuring stock availability of radiology consumables and compliance with SCM policies. Ensure the accurate collection, validation, analysis and submission of departmental data, statistics and performance indicators, including workload statistics, turnaround times, equipment utilisation, radiation incidents and quality indicators, to support decision-making, strategic planning, statutory reporting and achievement of APP and operational plan targets. Promote multidisciplinary collaboration, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research activities and continuous professional development while ensuring compliance with medico-legal requirements, information management standards, infection prevention and control, occupational health and safety legislation, and all applicable hospital policies and procedures.
