Requirements :

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPSCA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. A minimum of three (3) years appropriate experience working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a Medical specialist or Subspecialist. The successful candidate must demonstrate a sound knowledge of government regulations, policies and frameworks, including the ability to implement policies, work with the hospital and academic department using a collaborative approach, mentor junior staff and show commitment to excellence in patient care and a track record of successful academic productivity. A valid driver's license.

Duties :

  • Provide leadership and management on patient care, clinical management of women and supervise and teach interns, registrars, and fellows. Undertake regular follow-up ward rounds with interns, Junior Medical Officers, Registrars and Fellows, Design standard operation procedures and protocols for management of Obstetric and Gynaecological conditions in a multidisciplinary team to assist healthcare facilities that refer to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital in supporting their clinicians with managing patients in their facilities through conducting outreach programs and being accessible to them, Provide oversight and strategic support in administrative duties of the department which include planning, budgeting, student assessments and research. Comply with the Performance and development System. Develop and sustain clinical services that will contribute towards improving the quality of care and clinical services offered to women requiring Obstetrics and Gynaecological services and the appropriate requirements for management of women who seek care in our hospital, to assist the Head of Department when needed, on different matters around management and running of the Department, to participate in Gauteng Department of Health, Hospital and University management/ administrative structures and committees, to partake in teaching/ training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Teach and train Medical students, Interns, Medical Officers, Registrars, Fellows, Nurses and Allied, to be involved in development of curriculum for both under and post graduate students, to be involved in all activities around development and growth of Students and Fellows. Conduct clinical research and partake in research activities and supervision of both under- and post graduate students involved in research, establish, and maintain a database of all patients. Lead the development of relevant research in the subspecialty of her/his choice. Establish a strong working relationship and research collaboration with other specialists or professionals from the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic hospital, University of the Witwatersrand and affiliated hospitals and entities, both national and international professionals in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Contracting, Midterm review and final assessment) .Be prepared to perform outreach activities to hospitals within the cluster that refers to CHBAH. The incumbent will manage human, financial, assets and material resources in the Department.
